Dando Living In 'Squalor'
Grunge rocker EVAN DANDO is living in squalor in his New York City apartment, according to a revealing U.S. report.
The Lemonheads frontman was set to give a joint interview to New York Magazine with his ex-girlfriend, rocker Juliana Hatfield, at his apartment in Manhattan's Financial District, the night after the pair teamed up for a show last month (Sep10).
But the in-depth chat was relocated to a local coffee shop after Hatfield warned writer Lizzy Goodman about how messy Dando's home was.
Cracking open the door to greet the journalist, she explained, "I just got here, and I woke him up. You don't want to go in there. He's sort of living in squalor."
The interview was conducted at a nearby cafe but the group later returned to Dando's apartment, and Goodman reveals a laundry list of dirty items laying around the rocker's house in the article.
Goodman recalls sitting on a "sticky sofa" to talk to the star and noticing "a dingy stuffed tiger; an open bottle of Dr Pepper; a wad of cotton; several empty beer bottles; ...a charred tablespoon; a copy of Aleister Crowley's Diary of a Drug Fiend; a Polaroid of Dando and his ethereally blonde estranged wife, Elizabeth Moses; a pile of plastic bags filled with substances; a crusty container of green sauce."
But struggling drug addict Dando was unashamed of his messy nature and was happy to share stories about items he found on the floor.
He described a photo of Massachusetts vacation spot Cape Cod, where his father and "macrame, LSD-damaged hippie" stepmother live, and pointed out a postcard from his dentist reminding him he was well overdue for a check-up since his last visit in 2003.
Dando told Goodman, "He's a groovy guy. He looks at your teeth and is like, 'Let's get you high.'"
