The dancer who partnered Russell Crowe's wife on Australia's Dancing With The Stars has denied playing a part in the rumoured breakdown of the actor's marriage.
Reports suggesting the Gladiator star had separated from Danielle Spencer after nine years of marriage surfaced over the weekend (13-14Oct12), but professional dancer Damian Whitewood insists he had nothing to do with the split.
Whitewood is adamant the singer showed no signs of trouble in her personal life while they competed together on the celebrity dance show earlier this year (12).
He tells Aussie current affairs show Today Tonight, "When I was in the dance studio, Danielle was giving me 100 per cent of that dance. She never showed one bit there was problems (sic) whatsoever.
"Once we'd wrapped and finished, she said things weren't great. And that's pretty much as far as the conversation went."
Whitewood also reveals he wanted Crowe to visit the show to help pull in more votes, and was stunned when the actor turned up, unannounced, for Spencer's semi-final.
He adds, "Obviously Russell was a separate identity. I would have loved to have him involved (as) it was a popularity contest. The more I could get him involved the bigger the word gets out there. This was about Danielle.''
Whitewood, who was named the series' runner-up with Spencer, was previously dogged by romance rumours when he was paired with Pamela Anderson on the U.S. version of the Tv talent show, but he maintains he has always been the consummate professional.
He says, "Maybe I'm just good at transforming them into good dancers and creating the heart behind a dance show. That's what I'm there to do. Ballroom dancing is very suggestive - very seductive. It's two people up close and together, and personal. You couldn't get any closer."
