Damon + Newton Call For End To Darfur Crisis

Hollywood stars Matt Damon and Thandie Newton have called on the world's governments to unit and bring an end to the bloody conflict in Sudan.

As part of the fifth anniversary protests over the continuing conflict, Damon destroyed a dollhouse and child's drawings to symbolise the shattering of young lives in the region.

He says, "After the genocide in Rwanda we all said never again. Today we need to demand protection for the most vulnerable."

Newton, J.K. Rowling and Joely Richardson also feature in the campaign ahead of Global Day for Darfur on Sunday (13Apr08).

George Clooney, who has spearheaded the campaign, adds, "Days like these matter because they keep what is happening on the eyes of the international community. If we all raise our voices the international community will have to listen and respond. We need sustained international engagement if we're to see real progress on the ground."
