Damon Albarn To Perform At Poetry Festival
Organiser Michael Horovitz reveals the Blur frontman will be a special guest at his Poetry Olympics EnlighteNMEnt Marathon at Queen Elizabeth Hall on 14 June (12), joining fellow artists like singer and cellist Ayanna Witter-Johnson and poet Gwyneth Herbert.
However, Horovitz admits Albarn has yet to decide on exactly what he will perform at the event.
He tells Telegraph.co.uk, "Damon's lyrics represent decent poetry, and he's becoming more poetic all the time. He is very well read and likes poetry, including mine.
"It (his performance) will be pretty spontaneous, but he wants to be introduced as a musician, not a poet."
News of Albarn's latest creative endeavour comes a day after producer William Orbit claimed the star had walked out of a recording session with Blur.
The group had been laying down new material with Orbit in a studio ahead of a reunion show at London's Hyde Park in August (12), but the secret sessions were reportedly aborted when Albarn quit without warning last month (Apr12).
Orbit told Nme magazine, "They were getting some demons out of the way. The new stuff sounded amazing. Then it all stopped suddenly. It was all over with Damon, and the rest of the band were like, 'Is that it?'"
