Blur - Damon Albarn: 'London Olympics Capitalism Is Depressing'

Reformed rockers Blur only agreed to headline a special gig to mark the end of the London Olympics for their fans, with frontman Damon Albarn insisting the "commercialism" of the Games is "depressing".
The Parklife hitmakers will take to the stage at London's Hyde Park on 12 August (12) alongside supporting acts The Specials and New Order in honour of the sporting extravaganza.
However, Albarn is adamant there is only one reason the band is playing the concert - to give the public a good show.
He tells Britain's The Sun, "I'm just anti the capitalism of it all. We're not doing the gig for the corporate side of the Olympics, we're doing it for the human beings.
"It feels like you're drowning in commercialism at the moment. It's depressing. But I am into the table tennis so I would like to get some tickets for that. It would be an inspiration to see it at that level."
His bandmate Dave Rowntree has tickets for a showjumping event, but guitarist Graham Coxon reveals he may have to give up his coveted stubs for the diving competition to fulfil his duties with the band.
He says, "I've got tickets for the diving but that's the day before we go to Margate (south east England) for a gig. We have a massive rehearsal so I don't think I can go."
