Daft Punk - Daft Punk's triple mic recording on Random Access Memories

Daft Punk used three microphones to record 'Random Access Memories'.

The French duo - Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter - wanted to capture the atmosphere of their music accurately through the new record so went the extra mile and put the tracks together using different equipment, giving listeners a unique listening experience.

Disco legend and Chic founder Nile Rodgers, who features on the group's latest album, explained: ''That's a perfectly funny and sound example of how they think. They would use three mics to represent the past, present and future. The thing that's really cool is that most listeners won't hear that.

''They'll listen to it and I have a feeling that they will have the same kind of feeling that I get now when I walk into a club and there are 16 and 17 year olds dancing to 'Good Times'. They're acting like it's something new and cool.''

Nile believes it is the pair's passion for music which helps them pull off the timeless feel of the record and says he admires their methods.

He added to NME magazine: ''You need to have that kind of passion, and the intellectual credibility and knowledge, to pull this off. They chose to do it this way because they were either paying homage to something that they love and trying to recapture the feeling that made them want to make music, or inspired them to make the music that they made.

''We are living in three different musical eras when it comes to making classic music. When it comes to making throwaway music, the sort of thing that everybody loves and then after five years it doesn't really move you any more. They say you grow out of it, and it's true.''
