Da Brat - Da Brat Begins Work On Music Comeback
Rapper Da Brat is set to spit out rhymes about prison life after bottling up her grievances behind bars for two-and-a-half years.
The hip-hop star, real name Shawntae Harris, walked free from a Georgia incarceration centre last month (Feb11) after completing time for aggravated assault - and she's keen to get back into the studio and record tracks.
Da Brat admits she struggled to find the inspiration to pen lyrics while she was behind bars, but she's making up for lost time with the help of producer pal Jermaine Dupri, and is keeping busy while serving the remainder of her punishment on house arrest.
She tells Hip-Hop Weekly, "I'm gettin' some beats sent to me right now from JD (Dupri). I wasn't really motivated in there to write. I need to be able to hear some fire beats, and I need to hear it loud. I got two-and-a-half years of s**t built up that I need to talk about. I'm ready to get it in. I can't wait."
Instead of writing music, the rapper used her prison stint to complete a memoir about her troubled upbringing.
She released her last album, Limelite, Luv & Niteclubz, in 2003.
