Crystal Bowersox Beats Lee Dewyze In Idol Album Sales

Crystal Bowersox, the 25-year-old American singer-songwriter who finished as runner-up on season nine of American Idol, has outsold her rival Lee DeWyze in this week's album charts. However, according to sales tracking system Nielsen SoundScan, sales for albums on the Billboard 200 dropped 62% from last week.

In the battle of the 'Idol' acts, Bowersox secured the week's best-selling album despite a 71% drop in sales. Her debut record, 'Farmer's Daughter' sold 11,000 copies pushing its total sales well past the 100,000 mark. 24-year-old DeWyze, who was crowned the eventual winner of 'Idol' season nine, sold only 6,000 copies of his album 'Live It Up'. Other former contestants from the reality singing competition maintained their places in the Top 200, with Carrie Underwood selling a further 3,000 copies of her album 'Carnival Ride', and Fantasia taking her total sales of album 'Back To Me' to 384,000 after selling 6,000.

Bowersox's debut album hit shelves back in December 2010 and she performed the title track live on The Ellen Degeneres show on 16th December 2010. The singer-songwriter is set to make an appearance at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas today (6th January 2011) where she will be promoting her album 'Farmer's Daughter'.

Well, I pre-ordered her CD on Amazon & would have paid any amount they charged, so cost is immaterial to how many have been sold. She is outselling him on her first release just as I predicted she would after he won AI. Prefer her AI performances (available on iTunes) over her new CD, but hopefully she'll get there soon.

SeriouslyCrystal 106K to Lee 102K.This is not a huge margin (4K)Crystal's album had been selling for $6.99 -bet are revenues close (or maybe Lee's revenues are higher)They are two songwriters / artists with different styles and both can and will have music careers.Do Not rewrite History - Lee won American Idol because the viewers like him and his music better.
