Cruise: Scientology's A Blastby Contributor | 16 January 2008
A leaked video clip of Tom Cruise discussing his Scientology beliefs has emerged on the internet.
The revelation of the four-year-old footage follows explosive comments from the Mission Impossible star's lawyer last week, who called a new biography of Cruise "sick stuff".
In Tom Cruise: An Unauthorised Biography, British author Andrew Morton has claimed the actor is second-in-command in the controversial Church of Scientology.
In the nine-minute video clip, Cruise describes being a Scientologist as "a blast".
"Being a Scientologist, when you drive past an accident it's not like anyone else," he says. "As you drive past, you know you have to do something about it because you know you're the only one that can really help."
He adds: "We are the authorities on getting people off drugs, we are the authorities on the mind, we are the authorities on improving conditions... we can rehabilitate criminals... we can bring peace and unite communities."
As the Mission Impossible tune plays in the background, Cruise explains his desire for the world to be "a different place".
He says he would "like to go on vacation and go and play", adding "that's what I want to be and there's times I'd like to do that but I can't because I know. I know".
"We have that responsibility to say, 'Hey, this is the way it should be done because we do it this way and people are actually getting better and let's get it done'.
He adds: "Let's really get it done - let's have enough love and compassion and toughness that we're going to do it and do it right."
