Crowe Sacks Sexy Cheerleaders
RUSSELL CROWE has banned sexy cheerleaders from his rugby league team this season because they make fans feel too uncomfortable.
The GLADIATOR star is co-owner of the South Sydney Rabbitohs in Australia and revealed last night (08FEB07) the club had decided to discard its cheerleaders.
He says, "Our focus is to re-establish rugby league and women. The focus on game day should be a positive experience for the crowd.
"We feel they (the cheerleaders) made a lot of people uncomfortable. We examined game day and wanted to contemporise and make the focus football.
"It makes women uncomfortable and it makes blokes who take their sons to the football also uncomfortable."
The team will replace their cheerleaders with a drumming band consisting of both men and women during NRL home matches.
Crowe said his wife DANIELLE SPENCER supported the club's controversial stance saying, "She likes the fact that game day entertainment will be multi-sex. She likes that aspect."
He adds, "We've talked to a lot of people and everyone sees it as being progressive The whole idea of percussion will be exciting for the crowd."
