'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon' sequel in the works

A sequel to 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon' is in the ''early stages''.

Michelle Yeoh - who starred in the Academy Award-winning martial arts action film with Chow Yun Fat and Zhang Ziyi - has revealed that a follow-up to the Ang Lee-directed blockbuster is finally in the works more than 12 years after its release.

She told the Metro newspaper: ''It's early stages. It still depends on the script and who the director is.

''It's never easy to make another movie after such an incredible classic, but 'Crouching Tiger' is a gem in my heart and always will be. So we will see.''

'Crouching Tiger' received critical acclaim upon its release in 2000, winning the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film and also received nominations for Best Picture and Best Director.

The film led to a resurgence in martial arts films finding success in the western world, with movies such as 'House of Flying Daggers', 'Hero' and 'Memoirs of a Geisha' following its success.

Michelle is set to return to the big screen in 'Reign of Assassins', which marks her first martial arts film since 'Crouching Tiger', and despite being 49 years old, she insisted on doing all of her own stunts.

She explained: ''I love my martial arts and action movies. They give another dimension to the acting world -the emotional plus the physical. But I have to choose them carefully. This is the first one I've done since 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.' ''
