Country singer-songwriter Calvin Russell has died at the age of 62.
The Texan musician passed away in his native state on Sunday (03Apr11) after losing a battle with cancer.
Russell endured a troubled upbringing and spent time in jail before he turned to music full-time and was mentored by country legend Townes Van Zandt.
He signed a record deal in the 1980s and released his first album, A Crack in Time, in 1990. The record propelled him to fame in Europe and he went on to release another 14 albums, with his latest offering, Contrabendo, hitting stores earlier this year (11).
He is survived by his wife Cynthia, according to Variety.
