Could Vanessa Hudgens Get Oscar Nomination For 'Spring Breakers'?

Vanessa Hudgens certainly upstaged the competition at the premiere of her new movie 'Spring Breakers' at the Venice Film Festival on Wednesday (September 5, 2012), wearing a revealing cream dress with gold sequins, slashed to the waist. Though she stole the limelight from her co-stars Selena Gomez and Ashley Benson at the premiere, there's also talk that Hudgens performance in the movie could land her some major nominations.

She plays one of four 'good girls gone bad', who rob a fast food restaurant to fund the trip of a lifetime. Though the actress has flirted with more serious roles over the past 12 months, 'Spring Breakers' is certainly new territory for Selena Gomez, who has stuck strictly to fluffy Disney roles in the past. Elsewhere in the movie - by controversial auteur Harmony Korine - Oscar nominee James Franco plays a drug-dealer who bails the girls out of prison. Early reviews of the film point towards a scene in which the actor sings a piano version of Britney Spears' ballad 'Everytime'. The Guardian's movie critic Xan Brooks said of the movie, "[Korine] bounces back like a man possessed, rekitted as some 21st-century Russ Meyer, playing disreputable paterfamilias to a fresh breed of supervixens", while the Daily Telegraph's Robbie Collin mused, "While the film is a success on its own art house exploitation terms, it can't help but feel like a missed opportunity". The Hollywood Reporter said, "More than by Franco, the film's profile will be boosted by the presence of former Disney Channel cuties Selena Gomez and Vanessa Hudgens among all the bong-hitting, boozing, coke-snorting, breast-baring, grinding bodies".

Though Hudgens will face strong awards-season competition from the likes of Quvenzhane Wallis (Beasts of the Southern Wild) and Keira Knightley (Anna Karenina), we're quietly tipping the young star for some major nominations.
