Copperfield Rep's Delight At Arrest
DAVID COPPERFIELD's lawyer is glad the woman who accused the star of rape has been arrested for extortion - because it proves his innocence.
Lacey Carroll falsely alleged Copperfield assaulted her on his private island in the Bahamas in 2007, but officials dropped their investigation earlier this month (Jan10) amid questions over her credibility.
The case took another twist this week (begs25Jan10) when it emerged Carroll has been charged with prostitution and making a false rape claim against a Seattle businessman.
And Copperfield's reps are adamant the development proves the famed illusionist's claim that Carroll was trying to extort cash from him.
In a statement, Copperfield's attorney Patty Eakes says, "Last week federal prosecutors dropped their criminal investigation of David Copperfield, and, this week, local authorities have charged Mr. Copperfield's accuser with making yet another false claim of rape, this
time against a Seattle-area businessman, and with prostitution. These developments vindicate Mr. Copperfield and confirm what he has said all along - this woman tried to extort money from him by making a false claim.
"Thankfully, authorities have now stepped in to stop her."
