Copies Of 50 Shades Of Grey To Be Burnt By Victim's Charity

Risque trilogy, 50 Shades of Grey, has caused another wave of controversy. Copies are due to be burnt in protest by a victim's abuse charity, reports The BBC.

"I do not think I can put into words how vile I think this book is and how dangerous I think the idea is that you get a sophisticated but naive, young women and a much richer, abusive older man who beats her up and does some dreadful things to her sexually," said Clare Phillipson of Wearside Women in Need. The charity's director attempted to read the book, but could only get two-thirds in before giving up "in disgust". She is furious with the decision of libraries to order extra copies of the book to cope with the demand. "My main objection is that at a time when local authorities are making cuts to outreach and refuge services for women experiencing domestic violence, we have libraries wasting and grossly misusing public to buy a book which says: 'domestic violence is sexy'. The money would be better spent supporting victims."

Casting for a film adaptation of the book is well underway. Given the tremendously success of the novels, they were inevitably going to be subject to a cinematic reincarnation. Shia Labeouf, star of Wild West gangster flick Lawless, has set a precedent for a more promiscuous role by confirming his part in Nymphomaniac will include real sex scenes, and this has served to fuel speculation that he would be a perfect Christian Grey.
