The son of Sean Combs, aka P Diddy, has come under scrutiny following American college UCLA's decision to give him an American Football scholarship - this in spite of the fact that Justin Combs is the son of a father worth an estimated $475 million whereas the college are somewhat cash strapped at the moment.
The University's spokesman, said that scholarships are "entirely funded by Athletic Department ticket sales, corporate partnerships, media contracts and private donations" and "do not rely on state funds," according to The Los Angeles Times. "There is a big separation between financial aid based on need and how that's funded and how athletic scholarships are funded and awarded to students," he added.
Combs Jnr for his part took to Twitter to defend himself as well, writing "Regardless what the circumstances are, I put that work in!!!! PERIOD." He carried on to say "Regardless of what you do in life every1 is gonna have their own opinion. Stay focused, keep that tunnel vision & never 4get why u started." Combs certainly has all the credentials for a scholarship, a 5 foot 9 170-pound defensive back, he's allegedly graduated from High School with a 3.75 GPA, and turned down scholarships from Illinois, Virginia and Wyoming to attend Ucla. Emily Resnick, outgoing president of Ucla's Undergraduate Students Association commented "Ucla is a business - to them, giving him a scholarship is some sort of investment. It's how college athletics works. This is how we're going to get money."
