Controversial C4 Drama Honoured At Baftas

by | 23 April 2007

Longford, the controversial Channel 4 drama about prison campaigner Lord Longford's support of the Moors murderer Myra Hindley, was the main winner at last night's Bafta craft awards.

Starring Jim Broadbent and Samantha Morton, the drama took home awards for best editing and best writer (Peter Morgan). It had been nominated for a total of five awards.

Sharon Foster, the writer behind the BBC show Shoot The Messenger, was named as the best breakthrough talent. The show, which looked at issues in the black community, was also handed the award for best photography and lighting.

An Audience With Take That...Live! was obviously not just popular with fans but also with critics, as it won the Bafta for production design, seeing off competition from Jane Eyre, Longford and Life on Mars.

Terry Pratchett's Hogfather, which starred David Jason, took home the Bafta for best visual effects.

The ceremony was held last night at London's exclusive Dorchester hotel and precedes next month's Bafta television awards.

Held on May 20th, shows nominated for a Bafta include Life On Mars, Longford, The Virgin Queen, Jane Eyre and Extras.
