Consumer Reports 3D Tv Works Great -- But Don't Buy One

Consumer Reports magazine has tested three of the new 3D television sets, two from Samsung and one from Panasonic, and found each of them ready for primetime. The problem it suggested is that primetime is not yet ready for them. In tests published in the June issue, which hits newsstands today (Tuesday), the magazine concluded that the 3D images on the sets "had excellent depth, color, and high-def details, creating a compelling 3D picture as good as a movie theater." It noted that the sets along with a 3D Blu-ray player and four pairs of glasses will cost consumers about $3,000. And while that doesn't appear to represent a major premium, the magazine cautions that now is not the time to buy one. "Blu-ray discs with 3D content are just arriving, and while 3D broadcasts are starting up it will be a while before there are many of them," Paul Reynolds, Consumer Reports' electronics editor said.
