American Idol - Connick, Jr: 'I Would Have Liked To Have Been An Idol Judge'
HARRY CONNICK, JR. has revealed he came close to landing a role as a judge on TV talent show AMERICAN IDOL after becoming a fan favourite while mentoring wannabes on the last season - but missed out to JENNIFER LOPEZ and STEVEN TYLER.
The crooner admits he was keen to land a seat on the panel after Simon Cowell quit the show last May (10), and for a while it looked as if producers were really interested in the idea.
He tells WENN, "They asked me if I was interested in doing it, and I was interested. I had a blast on the show, and I like doing that stuff, you know. I just thought it was fun talking to these young people about singing and stuff.
"We had some preliminary conversations about judging, and it just kind of fizzled out, which is fine. I mean, had it materialised, it would have been a fun thing to do, but fortunately I've got some other things going, and that was fine."
The new season of American Idol, with Tyler and Lopez judging the competition, debuts in America this week (beg17Jan11).
