Congratulations To Beyonce, But Super Bowl Show Fails To Beat Madonna Ratings

Beyonce fans are still shouting from the rooftops about her Super Bowl half-time show on Sunday (February 3, 2013), when the R&B queen smashed out the hits and briefly reunited with her Destiny's Child band-mates Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams - she also sang live.

However, it has emerged that Beyonce's half-time show extravaganza scored just 48.2/71 in the 8.00pm-8.30pm time slot. That was down from the 48.1/72 that Madonna scored for her 2012 half-time performance, which was mired in controversy after M.I.A flipped two fingers to the camera during Give Me All Your Luvin. Though her ratings were up on Beyonce, Madonna's half-time show didn't really impress the millions watching at home, with Twitter users picking the performance apart piece-by-piece. In contrast, Beyonce received almost universal acclaim for her show, which featured a number of her greatest hits, plus a few old favourites from her Destiny's Child days, including Independent Woman and Bootylicious.

According to Deadline.com, Sunday's game, between the San Francisco 49er and the Baltimore Ravens, peaked at 52.9/75 for its nail-biting final half hour. Following the game, CBS drama Elementary averaged 12.0/24.

"Madonna's half-time show didn't really impress the millions watching at home, with Twitter users picking the performance apart piece-by-piece. In contrast, Beyonce received almost universal acclaim for her show - That is simply UNTRUE. I saw a lot of people saying the exact opposite. The press praised Madonna's superbowl performance and now this year all of a sudden they try rewriting history. Madonna also gets more love for her performance EVERYWHERE, while almost everyone found beyonce disappointing. I realize the jay z crowd are powerful people in the media & right connections and such but this is ridiculous!!

this site sucks. this is the 3rd time I have attempted to post something. here I go again: Madonna's show was WAY better! Beyonce had 2 more months to prepare her show and that is what she came up with? Madonna's show had true artistic vision, was fun, glitzy and colourful. I've watched it several times since. Beyonces show had no colour, all black, same choreo that she has been doing for years; there were no surprises and a weird selection of her songs (Halo to end, really?). Madonna drew MILLIONS more viewers for a reason.

100% agree with Dani856 - Madonna's show was way more entertaining. It had a vision; it was fun; it was glitzy and featured classic pop songs. Beyonce had 2 more months than Madonna did to come up with her show and it was the same show she has done before - at some points, literally (her screen dancing was done at the AMAs a few years back). There was nothing special about it - and everyone wore black - where was the colour, the fun? Madonna ALL THE WAY.

Speak for yourself. Madonna received plenty of praise for her efforts on Twitter from celebs, even from Snoop and P'Diddy who aren't even in her genre. Her set was a lot more elaborate, fun and memorable. Though I generally like Beyonce, I preferred Madonna's. Beyonce's performance was the same thing she does every time. It was predictable which made me kind bored. Madonna's was more cohesive with better transitions. I don't see where 5 months of practice came in for Bey's recycled routines and choreography. I got tired of her crotch.
