The man behind the world's most famous anti-virus computer program has denied he had any involvement in a murder in Belize as police seek to question him in connection with the death of his neighbour.
John MCAfee, who founded the global software company which carries his name, is wanted for questioning after the body of retired builder Gregory Faull was found at a house on the island of Ambergris Caye on Sunday (11Nov12).
MCAfee has now reportedly gone into hiding, but he has spoken to Wired magazine to deny he had any involvement in his neighbour's death.
When asked whether he knows anything about the case, he replied, "Nothing - other than I heard he had been shot. I thought maybe they (whoever killed him) were coming for me. They mistook him for me. They got the wrong house. He's dead. They killed him. It spooked me out."
Police in Belize have described MCAfee as a "person of interest" and not a suspect, with Raphael Martinez, a spokesman for Belize's Ministry of National Security, saying, "We are following several leads. He lives nearby and is associated with this person so he's just wanted for routine questioning."
MCAfee moved to Belize in 2008.
