The musician created the piece, originally titled Treulich Gefuhrt, for his 1850 opera Lohengrin, but it was popularised in 1858, when it was used for the nuptials of Victoria, the Princess Royal and Prince Frederick William of Prussia.
The tune has since become known as the Wedding March or Here Comes the Bride and is still used today as brides walk down the aisle.
