British classical composer Jonathan Harvey has passed away. He was 73.

Harvey died at a hospice in Sussex, England on Tuesday (04Dec12) following a long battle with motor neurone disease.

After beginning his composing career in the 1960s, Harvey became famous for using experimental techniques and electronic instrumentation in his works, the most well known of which is Mortuos Plango, Vivos Voco.

He went on to compose with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and was made a professor of music at Britain's prestigious Oxford University, as well as the Imperial College London and University of Sussex.
