Composer A.r. Rahman Blocks Producer From Using Oscar-winning Best Song
Rahman, who won a Best Song Academy Award for the tune in 2009, has blocked Paul Smith's plans to use the track in his musical adaptation of the 2008 film - because the producer's vision does not include British filmmaker Boyle.
Rahman, who owns the rights to the song, tells The Hollywood Reporter, "As a team, we all took the position that we all work together."
Smith has offered the director role to Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes after talks broke down with Boyle, who is currently gearing up to oversee the Olympics-related opening and closing ceremony spectaculars in London.
