Comic Con Provides First Look At Del Toro's 'Pacific Rim'
Comic Con is the place to be this summer when it comes to getting the inside info on Hollywood's forthcoming blockbusters. And Guillermo Del Toro will be one of the names on everybody's lips at the convention, with the release of his new movie 'Pacific Rim' expected neat year. A movie poster for the film has been released to coincide with Comic-Con (similar tactics have been deployed by the makers of The Hobbit) and unlike some of the other big movies, nobody outside of the film's crew has seen any footage of the film yet.
It's thought that Del Toro may well use Comic Con as an opportunity to unveil a few scenes from his aliens vs robots flick. For those that won't be at Comic Con, Warner Bros and Legendary Pictures have distributed the poster image for the movie, featuring a close-up of one of the movie's giant robots, known as Jaegers, which are used to battle the monsters, known as Kaiju (the image has been posted on the Cinema Blend site). The Pacific Rim movie is based on a screenplay by Travis Beacham and is set in the future. In the movie, a dimensional rift has opened up in the Pacific Ocean, which opens a gateway to a whole host of "otherworldy beasts."
The movie is currently in post-production and will star Idris Elba, Ron Perlman and Charlie Hunnam. Pacific Rim has been scheduled for a July 2013 release and marks Del Toro's first directorial outing since 2008's Hellboy II: The Golden Army.
