Comic book legend Carmine Infantino has died at the age of 87.
The artist and editor passed away on Thursday (04Apr13), but no further information about his death was available as Wenn went to press.
Infantino is best known for his work on Batman during the reinvention of the character in 1964, and he also designed the Silver Age Flash's now-iconic red and yellow costume.
He was the editorial director of DC Comics in the 1960s, and the company's Entertainment President Diane Nelson writes in a statement, "The entire DC Entertainment family is saddened by the loss of Carmine Infantino. His contributions to the comics industry and to DC Comics in particular are immense and impossible to quantify. Our thoughts are with his family, friends and fans during this difficult time."
