Comedian Katt Williams Forced To Apologize Over Rant
"My remarks were not meant to be offensive," Williams said in a statement. "I want to apologize if my comedy act was taken out of context. I sincerely appreciate my fans within the Mexican community and would never intentionally go out of my way to offend them," he added. The rant which took place in a comedy club in Phoenix, Arizona was more than seven minutes long in total and was a response to a heckler. His words have drawn criticism because of its racial tones and the profanities he used. The comedian also sang the national anthem several times as the argument with the audience member intensified. The comic has appeared in numerous music videos for artists such as Game, T.I. and Ludacris as well as appearing in several episodes of My Wife and Kids as reoccurring character Bobby Shaw.
The 39-year-old comedian began his career performing on Bet's Comic View but is more widely recognised for his roles in movies such as Friday After Next and 2007 romantic comedy Norbit alongside fellow comedian Eddie Murphy, he has most recently appeared in kids movie Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore. Williams is no stranger to controversy, in November 2009 he was arrested for reportedly stealing o3,500 worth of jewellery while working on a film set.
