Comcast Now Offers Vod From All Networks

Throw away the TV guide. If you're a Comcast subscriber, you'll be able to watch many network television shows any time you wish. Comcast said on Wednesday that it has become the first cable-TV provider to offer programs from all four major television networks, ABC, CBS, NBC, and Fox, on its video-on-demand service beginning the day after the programs air. For Comcast, it's a display of one-upmanship in its competition against Netflix and online video sites like Hulu that offer individual older programs. "This makes us different from any of our competitors," Marcien Jenckes, Comcast's general manager of video services told today's (Thursday) Los Angeles Times. "People are still watching the majority of TV on the TV. This points to the growth and the potential of our video-on-demand service." In a separate interview with the Wall Street Journal , Jenkes added, "Our goal is to deliver customers the best and most-current entertainment choices anytime, anywhere so they can catch up and keep up with their favorite TV shows." For the present, the choices will remain rather limited. Each network will decide how many shows it will offer on the Comcast service. The New York Times reported that while ABC will offer only six, NBC (now controlled by Comcast) will offer 20.
