Coldplay - Coldplay's Smelly Shows

Coldplay prefer playing stadiums to small venues, because the audience can't smell them.

The 'Paradise' band's singer, Chris Martin, enjoys the energy of an intimate show by the band, but admits things can get a little sweaty onstage.

He told coldplay.orange.fr: "In the smaller places people can smell you more, which is a bad thing, because we get hot.

"A stadium is, in some ways, easier because no one is offended by the way you smell.

"But there are also advantages to smaller venues, there's a lot of firey energy and even slow songs sound very powerful and, of course, I love seeing my favourite artists in small places."

Drummer Will Champion admits he gets a little daunted by a small venue, as they band are so connected to the crowd.

He added: "In the small shows you can see every person's facial expressions, you can see if they are on their mobile phone, you can see everything, so it's a bit more nerve wracking."

Coldplay played the main stage at Rock in Rio festival - one of the largest in the world - on Saturday (01.10.11) and the band's latest album, 'Mylo Xyloto', will be released on October 24.
