Coldplay Have Biggest Selling Album In The Worldby Contributor | 16 February 2009
Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends, the fourth album by Coldplay, was the best-selling album of 2008 worldwide, it has been announced.
The album sold 6.8 million copies worldwide according to the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI), which represents the recording industry across the globe.
AC/DC's 15th studio album Black Ice secured second place in the chart of 2008 worldwide sales while the soundtrack to Mamma Mia! finished third.
Duffy's Rockferry finished in fourth place - though it was the biggest-selling debut album of the year - while Metallica's Death Magnetic completed the top five.
Leona Lewis and Amy Winehouse also featured in the top ten, along with the High School Musical 3 soundtrack, Lil Wayne and Rihanna.
