Coldplay Go To Bat For Village Cricket Team
Frontman Chris Martin and his bandmates agreed to support Gloucestershire County League team Slaughters United after club secretary Paul Heming wrote to bass player Guy Berryman asking for financial help.
Berryman, who had previously sponsored a nearby rugby team, is a huge sports fan and was only too happy to help, offering to pay for the team's strip.
Spinner.com reports cricket fan Martin has links to the area too - he once played for nearby team Great Rissington in his youth.
It is not known if Coldplay will be visiting the village team, but Martin can count out his wife Gwyneth Paltrow if he plans a trip to the Cotswolds - she's not a fan of the sport.
In a recent interview, she revealed cricket leaves her cold: "I do not understand cricket at all... It is so impossible to understand. It's crazy."
Coldplay's new team is already enjoying success - in their first game sporting the band's name on their whites, Slaughters beat St Phillips North by 69 runs.
