Coldplay - Coldplay Dislodge Military Wives From Top Of UK Charts

Coldplay's latest single, 'Paradise' has become the first UK number one single of 2012, knocking the Military Wives' Christmas number one, 'Wherever You Are' off the top spot. Olly Murs' single 'Dance With Me Tonight' is number two in the charts. The Military Wives' choir was formed by the TV personality Gareth Malone and is comprised of the wives of military personnel from British Army bases in Devon. Their single slipped to fourth place, after Flo Rida's 'Good Feeling' took the third spot.

The Coldplay single was released back in October 2011 and debuted at number 14. The week before Christmas, it climbed up to number two. This week's chart position (January 1, 2012) marks the band's second number one single. Despite their music's consistent popularity since they first attracted interest with the release of their debut album Parachutes in 2000, they have only ever achieved one other number one - 'Viva La Vida' in 2008. 'Paradise' is the second single from their fifth studio album, Mylo Xyloto, which also reached number one on the UK Albums chart.

British songwriter Ed Sheeran found himself at the top of the UK album chart with his album entitled '+'. Bruno Mars' Doo-Wops & Hooligans was second.
