Coldplay's 'A Rush Of Blood To The Head' Named U.K.'s Favourite Album In BBC Radio 2 Poll

Coldplay's second album, A Rush Of Blood To The Head, has been named the nation's favourite in a list compiled by the listeners of BBC Radio 2. The 2002 release was named the top album by DJ Jo Whiley, on air today (April 1) as part of the BBC's 'The Golden Age of the Album' series.

After the first spot, the rest of the list continues to surprise as Keane's Hopes and Fears was named second on the list and Duran Duran's Rio at three. Usual 'best album list' compatriots Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band by The Beatles and Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd made it on to the list too, but peaked at 8th (Sgt. Pepper) and 4th (DSotM). The crowning of Coldplay's album as the nations favourite marks a successful couple of BBC lists for the group, after a Radio 6 poll recently named the song 'Clocks', taken from A Rush of Blood to the Head, the top track on it's list of 100 greatest songs of the last century.

Speaking about the list, Jeff Smith, Head of music at Radio 2, said in a statement released by the BBC: "With albums ranging from Sinatra in the 50s to Emeli Sande in the last year, the range of eras and genres exhibited by the chart is typical of the breadth of Radio 2 and its distinctive music policy."

The full top ten list is as follows:

1. Coldplay - Rush Of Blood To The Head

2. Keane - Hopes and Fears

3. Duran Duran - Rio

4. Pink Floyd - The Dark Side Of The Moon

5. Dido - No Angel

6. The Rolling Stones - Sticky Fingers

7. The Pet Shop Boys - Actually

8. The Beatles - Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band

9. U2 - The Joshua Tree

10. Queen - A Night At The Opera
