Coachella - Coachella Heads To Sea With Cruise Festival, Featuring Pulp, Hot Chip
Coachella has firmly established itself as the dominating music festival in the Usa, something cemented this year with the now infamous appearance of the Tupac Hologram, proving that if a new revolution is going to happen in music, you can bet that it'll be during the April weekend of the festival. With nothing left to prove in States though, the organisers are now seemingly setting sail to take on the world! Or at least have a great party whilst they float about in the water for a bit.
That's right, the first SS Coachella has been announced featuring British artists like Pulp and Hot Chip alongside American cousins like Yeasayer, Sleigh Bells and James Murphy of Lcd Soundsystem. The cruise will be split into two weekends, the first between December 16th to the 19th around the Bahamas whilst the second will circle Jamaica between the 19th and 23rd of the same month.
The New York Times reports that the event will be taking place on the 1000 ft long vessel Celebrity Silhouette which will have room for 2,800 fans - a rather miniscule proportion of the tens of thousands that flock to their main California site each year. Prices for punters start at $500 per person with the top rooms worth $9000. It's become a craze of late for bands to replace karaoke singers and old pop has-beens as cruise ship performers, with Weezer notably arranging their cruise last winter among others.
