Cnn's Photo Editing Raises Ethics Controversy
The decision by CNN to alter a photograph showing CBS correspondent Lara Logan moments before she was grabbed by a mob of Egyptians in Cairo's Tahrir Square and sexually assaulted has touched off controversy among journalists over whether the cable news network had unethically tampered with a historic photographic record. The photograph, released by CBS to the media, showed a number of faces behind Logan and was widely reproduced without alteration by other news organizations. On Thursday, the Los Angeles Times , which first noted that CNN had Blurred out the faces of the individuals behind Logan, received an explanation from a CNN spokeswoman, who said, "We made a network-wide editorial decision to blur the faces around Logan because we didn't know if those in the photograph were involved in the attack or not."
