Cnn Hires Morgan Spurlock To Produce "Nonfiction" Show
CNN has struck a deal with Super Size Me filmmaker Morgan Spurlock to produce a weekly documentary series, Inside Man, that will air on weekends beginning next April as part of the news channel's move into "nonfiction television." "Morgan Spurlock's name has become synonymous with creative and thought-provoking documentary story-telling," said Mark Whitaker, CNN Worldwide executive VP and managing editor. Besides the Oscar-nominated Super Size Me , Spurlock's production company, Warrior Poets, has produced such other theatrical documentaries as The Greatest Movie Ever Sold, Freakonomics, and Where in the World is Osama bin Laden? The deal immediately prompted criticism from some conservatives. Breitbart.com commented that the deal with Spurlock demonstrated that CNN is now attempting to "appeal to MSNBC's liberal audience while pretending to be a nonpartisan news outlet."
