Cloud Atlas Trailer Leaks: What Did We Learn? (Before It Was Taken Down)
Almost as soon as the five-minute Cloud Atlas trailer emerged online, it was hastily removed from the internet by Warner Bros. The eagle-eyed reps from the film studio may not have wanted us to catch a glimpse of the new Tom Hanks movie, but luckily, numerous bloggers and film critics managed to sneak a peek at the footage before it disappeared again.
Cloud Atlas, scheduled for release in October 2012, is an adaptation of the David Mitchell novel of the same name and stars Tom Hanks, Halle Berry and Hugh Grant. According to Hollywood Reporter, the trailer gives some idea of how the movie's directors (Tom Twyker and Andy Wachowski) have managed to tie up the six separate stories in the book, which span from the 19th century, to a post-apocalyptic era set in the future. The lead actors all play different roles and the trailer apparently gives viewers a glimpse of Halle Berry as Meronym, "a member of the last surviving remnants of a technically advanced civilization." She also plays the role of Luisa Ray, an investigative journalist."
The people behind the Indiewire blog were suitably impressed with what they saw, describing the footage as "pretty stunning, for the most part" and added "the production values look incredibly high, the scope and ambition and variety is like nothing else we've seen in a long time, and the cast, aided by some excellent make-up, look to be rising to the occasion." It's unclear when Warner Bros. will be re-releasing the trailer, under their own terms but it's certainly got the blogosphere salivating for now.
