Clinton Draws Millions Away From Nfl Kickoff
NBC and the NFL moved the season kickoff of NFL football to Wednesday night so that it would not have to compete against President Obama's acceptance speech on Thursday, the usual night for the kickoff. But while The Game drew 23.9 million viewers and was the third most-watched kickoff game ever, it fell far short of the 27.1 million who tuned in last year or the 27.5 million who tuned in in 2010. Convention coverage presumably drew off some potential viewers as 25.1 million watched Bill Clinton address the party faithful in Charlotte, NC on seven broadcast and cable networks. Cable news ratings are not yet available for Thursday night. But NBC reportedly drew about 8 million viewers; ABC, 3.7 million; and CBS, 3 million for their convention coverage.
