Clarence Clemons - Clarence Clemons 'Seriously Ill' After Stroke

Clarence Clemons, the American saxophonist and member of the E Street Band, is seriously ill after suffering a stroke, according to Rolling Stone. Clarence Clemons, who has struggled with back and knee problems over the past decade, reportedly suffered a stroke at his home in Florida.
Clemons well-publicised health problems caused him "to suffer a tremendous amount of pain and discomfort", but he is yet to miss a concert through illness. Speaking in February 2011, the saxophonist said, "That last tour was hell. Pure hell". Clemons, who recently had both knees replaced and spinal fusion surgery, said, "The timing was perfect because it didn't interfere with a lot of stuff that was going on in my life. It made me stronger, and for the past year I've been in physical therapy a few days a week working my ass off to get back in shape". Since the surgery, Clemons has been walking with the aid of a cane and crutches. He last performed with Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band in December 2010, at Asbury Park's Carousel House. Last month, he played 'Edge of Glory' with Lady Gaga on American Idol, and performs on the singer's 'Born This Way' album.
During the interview in February, Clarence Clemons stressed that virtually nothing would stop him hitting the road with Springsteen and the band, saying, "As long as my mouth, hands and brain still work I'll be out there doing it. I'm going to keep going 'til I'm not there anymore. This is what's keeping me alive and feeling young and inspired". As well his award-winning music career, the 69-year-old has made cameo appearances in numerous television series, most recently, 'The Wire'.
