Gospel singer Cissy Houston has confessed she would have been angry if her late daughter Whitney was gay.
The I Will Always Love You hitmaker was dogged by rumours about her sexuality during the 1980s, when she was suspected of carrying on a lesbian relationship with her personal assistant Robyn Crawford.
The tragic star eventually found love with troubled musician Bobby Brown, temporarily silencing the reports, but her mum Cissy insists to this day she still has no idea if the Grammy winner was bisexual.
But when asked during an interview with U.S. chat show host Oprah Winfrey whether it would have bothered her if the news were true, the deeply-religious 79 year old said, "Absolutely."
A shocked Winfrey continued to press the issue, saying, "You would not have liked that?", and the stern matriarch simply responded, "No."
Whitney Houston drowned in her hotel suite bathtub in Los Angeles on the eve of the Grammy Awards last year (12). The cause of death was drug related.
The BBC drama starring Aidan Turner returns to BBC One on September 4th.
