Christopher Nolan To Make 3-D Batman Movie?

Christopher Nolan is one of the last major action-movie directors to refuse to shoot digitally and in 3-D, claiming that the age-old format of 2D offers cinemagoers a more rounded experience. However, one of the foremost individuals in 3-D cinema claims it's just a matter of time before the filmmaker embraces the technology.

Nolan - who will soon premiere his hugely anticipated 'The Dark Knight Rises' - has also made films such as 'Inception', 'Memento' and 'The Prestige'. Though there was some discussion as to whether he would use 3-D for the new Batman movie, he eventually decided to eschew the technology, instead aiming to push IMAX cinema to its limit. Michael Lewis, the founder and chief executive of RealD - which makes 3-D projection systems - said, "I'd love to get Batman, of course. It's going to be the biggest film of the year". As for Nolan's eventual move to 3-D, Lewis said, ".I think it's just a matter of time. There are very few major directors not working with it now.Michael Bay said he'd never do 3D and then made the latest Transformers movie. Stephen Spielberg said he's never work in 3D or even digital, but then did [in Tintin].So I hope to get him [Nolan] at some point too". Lewis also cited artsy filmmaker such as Baz Luhrmann and Ang Lee who are due to make their 3-D debuts this year, the latter of whom won acclaim for the preview of his forthcoming fantasy 'Life of Pi'.

Another significant advancement for filmmakers is the ability to shoot with significantly higher frame rates. Peter Jackson's 'The Hobbit' will run at 48 frames per second, though not everyone embraced the look of the film when it premiered earlier this year.
