Christoph Waltz - Christoph Waltz Backs Quentin Tarantino's Cell Phone Ban

Actor Christoph Waltz fully supports Quentin Tarantino's strict cell phone ban on movie sets, as he finds incoming calls "really distracting" and difficult to ignore while he is working.

The Pulp Fiction director prevents unwanted disruptions by forbidding his cast and crew members from bringing noisy gadgets anywhere near his camera.

Waltz, who worked with the filmmaker on both Inglourious Basterds and Django Unchained, backs the rule.

He tells U.S. talk show host Conan O'Brien, "(A disruption) only happened once in the two movies that I've worked with him. It wasn't even a cell phone, it was somebody booting his computer but that nasty 'ding' sort of reminded him of the cell phone. He said, 'I told you: no phones.' Got up, left, and that was it for the day.

"He's very strict about cell phones and I appreciate it enormously because... I have very strict work ethics. The constant usage of texting and talking, it's really distracting, in all seriousness."

The Austrian-German star, who won a Golden Globe for Django Unchained on Sunday (13Jan13), admits Tarantino does let loose on occasion by downing shots of alcohol between takes.

Waltz reveals, "When Quentin shoots 1,000 yards of film, there's a little celebration (with shots) just to mark it. I think it's 1,000 yards - a certain amount, a round number."
