Chris O'dowd - Chris O'Dowd loves his Irish accent

Chris O'Dowd is proud of his Irish accent.

The 'Bridesmaids' actor - who is married to TV presenter Dawn Porter - used to be mocked for his thick country lilt and is surprised that he ever gets cast in Hollywood comedies, but is hopeful his voice will continue to charm American women.

He mused: ''I remember when I first went to university in Dublin, because I'm a country boy I used to get teased for my country accent, so the idea that it's playing well in Hollywood I find to be funny.

''I think I'm going to keep my Irish accent forever now in any movie I make, because chicks dig it and that's all I care about now! Now that I've been in a romantic comedy like 'Bridesmaids', I just want to impress women!''

The 33-year-old joker also revealed his parents expected ''very little'' of him growing up and he has defied all expectations by making a name for himself in comedy - despite dropping out of drama school.

He explained: ''I was the youngest in a long line of underachievers so there was no expectation and when I dropped out of college and then dropped out of drama school, no one really batted an eyelid. They were like, yeah of course you did, that is what we do. No, but seriously, they were very supportive.''
