Chris Eubank - Chris Eubank Shapes Up For Phone Hacking Fight

Ex-middleweight star Eubank has been officially informed his cell phone voicemail messages were intercepted by a private detective working for Murdoch's now-defunct British tabloid the News of the World.

He has launched legal action and has been offered a compensation payout of around $33,600 (£21,000), but Eubank has vowed to hold out for a much higher amount, insisting he blames the newspaper for wrecking his marriage.

The former sportsman tells Sky News, "How can one man litigating in person stand up against the Goliath of a multi-conglomerate company? It's a giant but I have no choice. They have taken away everything from me. For the last 12 years I have really just held my nerve. I am not angry - I'm calm, I'm gentle, I am true, and I don't intend to give way to their offers of money."

Eubank was named as a victim of the scandal as it emerged up to 600 more celebrities and members of the public are lining up to sue Murdoch's News International empire. The phone hacking scandal erupted in 2011 when it was reported that News of the World bosses had allegedly commissioned the hacking of phones belonging to crime victims, and the tabloid was shut down in the wake of the outrage.
