Chris De Burgh - Chris De Burgh Covers Stranded Students Airfare Costs

Singer Chris De Burgh has come to the rescue of two university students after covering the cost of their airfare home from Argentina after they were stranded during a charity challenge.

Trinity College students Clare Cullen and Matthew Hainbach teamed up with over 60 other participants to raise money for the St. Vincent de Paul organisation, which fights to eradicate poverty in Ireland, by travelling as far away from Dublin as possible in just 36 hours - without opening their wallets.

The pair managed to get to Argentina, where the Don't Pay the Ferryman hitmaker was born, and de Burgh was so impressed, he pitched in to help them get back home.

Sorcha MCCauley, who organised the challenge, tells local publication The Evening Herald, "We can't believe they've gone so far. We're really shocked and we've raised more money than we imagined - €11,000 ($14,258/£9,415) so far... We're shocked how successful it (challenge) has been, given it's the first year of the competition.

"Only three couples didn't make it out of Dublin Airport. Two other teams got further but they missed the deadline. One team is in Sydney (Australia) and the other is in some corner of Malaysia."
