Charlotte Church - Charlotte Church Settles News Of The World Lawsuit

Welsh singer Charlotte Church has officially settled her lawsuit against newspaper bosses over the U.K.'s phone hacking scandal.
The former child star launched legal action against the News of the World after it was revealed that her cell phone voicemail messages had been illegally intercepted by a private investigator hired by the now-defunct tabloid.
Church recently gave evidence at a hearing for the Leveson Inquiry, an investigation into U.K. press standards, claiming that her mother had attempted suicide after discovering News of the World editors were set to print a story about her husband's affair.
The singer also revealed her devastation after an article in sister paper The Sun revealed she was pregnant with her first child before she had broken the happy news to her family and friends.
The 26 year old was keen to go to trial, but she has since reached a deal with the executives at the News of the World's parent company, News Group Newspapers, to end the legal spat.
The settlement was announced in London's High Court on Thursday (23Feb12) and although details have not been revealed, it is believed that Church and her parents, who were also named as plaintiffs, will pocket between $608,000 (£380,000) and $800,000 (£500,000).
Church is just one of several celebrities who fell victim to the scandal - other stars, including British comedian Steve Coogan and rocker Pete Doherty, settled their legal battles with News Group Newspapers earlier this month (Feb12).
