Charlotte Church - Charlotte Church Holds Talks With U.k. Prime Minister
Singer Charlotte Church has met with British Prime Minister David Cameron to urge his government to introduce an independent media regulator in the U.K.
The Welsh star was one of the celebrities caught up in the phone hacking scandal which erupted last year (11) following allegations a private investigator intercepted stars' voicemails for the now defunct tabloid News of the World.
Church met with Cameron in Birmingham, England on Tuesday night (09Oct12) and presented him with a letter from Hacked Off, a group campaigning against press intrusion.
The letter was also signed by actor Hugh Grant, author J.K. Rowling and funnyman Steve Coogan, who all testified at The Leveson Inquiry, an investigation into U.K. press ethics which stemmed from the phone hacking.
Church also discussed the possibility of the British government launching a regulating body to keep editors in check.
She tells the Bbc, "After meeting with the Prime Minister I have faith that he will accept any recommendations that would lead us to a genuinely independent regulator which we, the public, can trust and is not controlled by the editors. I found that very comforting."
