Charlize Theron - Charlize Theron Honoured For Advocacy Work
New mum Charlize Theron was honoured for her advocacy work at a human rights event in Los Angeles on Saturday night (17Mar12).
The Monster star has long campaigned for equal rights in the gay community, and always insisted she will not wed until marriages between same-sex partners is made legal in all American states.
Her advocacy work earned her the Ally for Equality Award at the Human Rights Campaign gala, and she was handed the honour at the Ritz Carlton hotel by her Prometheus co-star Michael Fassbender.
Theron told the crowd, "Marriage equality is about more than just marriage. It's about something greater. It's about acceptance... I will always be your cheerleader and I will always be your friend."
The actress later admitted she struggled to leave her adopted baby son Jackson at home to attend the event, telling E! Online, "He's doing great. Its very hard for me to leave the house now so you know how important this is because I was like standing at the door going, 'Ah, this is so hard!'"
