Charlie Sheen Reveals That He Planned Spiderman Movie

Charlie Sheen has revealed that he had planned to play Peter Parker in a movie adaptation of Spiderman, long before Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield took the world by storm with their portrayal of the web-slinging hero.

Speaking on a Mohr Stories podcast, Sheen revealed that he pitched the idea to the now defunct Orion Movie Studios back in the mid nineties, when he had an office at the production company's headquarters. The Anger Management star said that he had everything lined up to make the movie and he would take on the title role, however he was met hostilely by the heads of the company, who told him "we're thinking that cartoons are not the future, comic books are not the future."

According to Sheen, the company's lack of enthusiasm was the only obstacle to his Spider-Man film project and when he was asked whether he could have secured screen rights, he replied: "I had a guy in my pocket who was going to get them for me."

Coincidentally, the actor's father, Martin Sheen, who plays his on-screen father on new show Anger Management, has a supporting role in this years The Amazing Spider-Man as Peter Parker's Uncle Ben. After the success of the film, two sequels have since been announced to follow the reboot in the near future, with Garfield expected to follow-up his role as Peter Parker/Spiderman.
