Channing Tatum's Scary Retreat Into The Rainforest
The thrill-seeker rounded up 10 of his best friends and flew to Gaya, where they hiked in the wilderness with two natives as their guides.
During an appearance on The Late Show With David Letterman on Wednesday (27Jun12), he said, "We decided to go with two indians out into the middle of the rainforest and see how long we could last... It was truly one of the most beautiful things I've ever done.
"It really truly makes you understand how much you really don't need on a daily basis. We had a hatchet and a hammock, we were sleeping in trees... We had Mre's (Meals Ready to Eat)... but mainly (we) fished... We just wanted to get away, we felt like if the world ever comes to an end, we would not know what to do in the wild."
But the Step Up star reveals the trip to paradise wasn't all drama-free.
He continues, "The biggest threat was actually falling trees... but more scary was knowing that a snake could be curled up under your hammock, like, when you get up to go pee in the middle of the night... We thought we saw an anaconda, but it just went under (the brush)... This was right after we just saw a picture that the guy had showed us - they cut open an anaconda and there was a person inside of it. There was an indian inside the actual anaconda."
And Tatum, who thought he'd be sleeping under the stars, admits the trip was far less serene than he expected.
He adds, "You can't actually see the sky because it's a triple canopy rainforest. And you think it's gonna be quiet and beautiful because you're so far out in the middle of nowhere but it's the loudest place, it's actually louder than New York City."
Yet the daredevil insists the group is already planning another adventure: "Our next trip is gonna go to the Himalayas (in India)."
